Planning

The Southwest Florida RPC performs a number of different planning objectives to sustain economic growth. With each new year the RPC creates new plans and programs that fall within the needs of the region. The activities of the Southwest Florida RPC can be classified into three major areas: short and long range planning, tactical planning and transportation planning. Each program falls within one or more of the planning categories described below.

Comprehensive Plans >>
Comprehensive Plans are tools that are intended to be used by local public leaders and private citizens to guide the future use of the region’s lands and natural resources and to intelligently provide for the built environment needed by man to live, work and play.

Developments of Regional Impact (DRIs) >>
The Southwest Florida RPC creates Developments of Regional Impact (DRIs) to coordinate and review any large-scale development project which, because of its character, magnitude, or location, could have a substantial effect upon the health, safety, or welfare of the citizens of more than one county.

Strategic Regional Policy Plan >>
The Southwest Florida RPC addresses five main issues and goals in their Strategic Regional Policy Plan derived from the State Comprehensive Plan. View both volumes broken down by section.

Transportation Planning >>
Visit the Lee county MPO's website, who is responsible for conducting a continuing, cooperative, and comprehensive transportation planning process for all of Lee County.
